Ramiro Llona
Peru, 1947
He studied architecture at the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, Lima, and Fine Arts at the Catholic University of Lima. He continued his artistic training at Pratt Institute, New York. Currently lives and works in the cities of Lima and New York.
His first works were large chiaroscuro paintings of expressive violence and references Goya. Then took the cloth-like two-dimensional real space and discovered the color as expressive and structural principle of painting. Both the drawings and engravings and paintings follow a process cathartic and visceral creation of thematic constraints.
He has had solo exhibitions in numerous galleries in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. His solo stand those in: Forum Gallery, Lima (1976, 1985 and 1995), Inter-American Art Gallery, New York (1983), Museum of Modern Art, Bogotá (1986), ARCO / Forum Gallery, Madrid ( 1992) Osma Museum, Lima (1997), Museo de Arte de Lima (1998) Retrospective 1975-1998 presenting, FIAC, Paris (1999), and AMS Marlborough Gallery, Santiago (2000). Among the awards obtained by this artist include: First Prize in Painting Competition Park, Municipality of Miraflores, Lima (1975) Fulbright Scholarship, New York (1977), and Ford Studio Scholarship, Pratt Institute, New York (1978).
