Jacques Soisson studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier in the painting and sculpture studios between 1948 and 1951. From 1952 to 1962, he taught drawing in Sétif and Oran in Algeria. He joined the Compagnie de l'Art Brut in 1969 and was a member of the Société de Psychopathologie de l'Expression. He created a number of monumental works for educational institutions or residences. He also wrote a number of articles on art brut.
His works have featured in group exhibitions, notably at the Menton Biennale and, in 1977, at the Furniture-Paintings exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
He has held solo exhibitions of his works, including; 1954, Galerie Art Décoration, Montpellier; 1955, Cercle Lelian, Algiers; 1959, Hôtel de Ville, Sétif; 1965, Galerie Denise Mansion, Le Havre; 1973, Galerie Regards, Paris; 1975, Galerie Lahumière, Paris; 1978, Galerie Bonafous Murat, Paris; 1978, Kunstmuseum in Denmark; 1980, Galerie Art et Décoration, Montpellier; 1986, Key West, USA.
His canvases are inspired by fantasy and are totemic in form. This artist is just as much at home bringing life to monumental sculpture as he is when working with canvas and easel.
