BiographyJimoh Buraimoh pioneered the use of beads in contemporary art in Nigeria. Inspired by the Yoruba tradition of incorporating beadwork designs into ceremonial fabrics, cloaks, staffs, stools and crowns, Buraimoh in 1964 began creating paintings characterized by intricately applying beads to board. He is internationally renowned for his innovative concept of utilizing both traditional and contemporary Nigerian images, overlaid with strings of glass beads to produce dramatic visual effects.
